You'll want to apply for your permit in late winter or early spring (February through April) to ensure approval before the construction season begins. Most Calgary deck builders are fully booked by March or April, so having your permit in hand early is crucial for securing a contractor.

Permit extensions can be requested before the original permit expires, and the City of Calgary typically grants one 18-month extension for residential projects. This gives you a total of up to 36 months to complete your deck, which should be more than sufficient even if you encounter delays due to weather, material availability, or contractor scheduling.
